et me just start by saying this: You may see other Cigar Box Guitars kicking around on the internet, but many of those instruments are tacked together pieces of scrap wood that may make good conversation pieces but can NOT really be played, MY Cigar Box Guitars are each hand crafted (by ME, Carl, the seller who has been playing and building guitars for 30+years) right here in my shop in Massachusetts, USA, they are all quality instruments that are VERY playable on stage, in studio or elsewhere, I gig with one regularly! This auction is for my latest design hand made, FULLY PLAYABLE, DELUXE PRO QUALITY new Gibson Style engraved body 6 string electric Cigar Box Guitar with an all solid mahogany neck and engraved body featuring a gorgeous antiqued interior and exterior hand rubbed finish, vintage ashtray style Tele bridge with COMPENSATED SOLID BRASS saddles (for great tone AND dialing the intonation in perfectly!) beautiful 24.75" scale rosewood fretboard mahogany neck with 22 medium-jumbo frets, beautiful trapezoid inlays and vintage green keystone style tuners, the whole fretboard is completely accessible  on this instrument, play all the way up to the very last fret (and beyond!).  This is a FULL SIZE 24.75" scale instrument (same as all standard Gibson Les Pauls, SGs, ES-335s etc) yet the entire guitar is under 36 inches long and only weighs about 4-5 lbs, SUPER comfy and easy to play. The pickup is a sweeeeeeet sounding GFS Modern Vintage/Modern  humbucker with a push/pull coil tap on the tone control that splits it down to a single coil if you choose. Also have to option of adding a matching neck rail humbucker, also coil-tapped from the push/pull tone pot. You can really squeeze a LOT of different tones out of this guitar, its like a mini SG/ES-335 crossed with a Strat/Tele and then some, lots of full-on humbucker bite and richness with nice overtones from the semi-hollow body, but yet plenty of snappy quack when you want it as well, especially when you engage the coiltap and split the humbucker down to a single coil.
This is a lovingly handcrafted instrument again built by ME, Carl of Carl's Custom Guitars, you are dealing directly with the guy who made this instrument here, no middlemen messing things up and taking a piece of the pie. The guitar is professionally setup, dialed in and ready to play right out of the box, looks, plays and sounds GREAT, includes everything shown in the pictures: volume and tone controls with chrome knobs, quality tuners, strap buttons, all chrome hardware (including the hinges and the clasp on the cigar box), full body engraving artwork, input jack and plate and even rubber feet on the body which act as its own built in guitar stand, very cool!!!
Long before the days of internet shopping and large musical superstores many people had to work with whatever limited resources they had available to produce homegrown musical instruments. There is a long tradition of crudely made cigar box "guitars", diddley bo's etc etc which were basically a cigar box tacked to a piece of wood for a neck with some wire attached to pluck on, a lot of fun for the front porch but not something you can realistically plug into an amp and rip into on stage, what I have done here is taken that classic concept and brought it into the 21st century!!!
Yes, there is a VERY real guitar built around this wooden cigar box, and yes it REALLY opens, revealing the solid mahogany body (a GREAT guitar tone-wood!), you can even still keep some cigars in there hehe! The dimensions of the box are 2.5x6.5x9 inches. Again, this is a handmade custom instrument that is fully capable of being played everywhere from strumming on your couch to a pro stage rig at full volume (and everywhere in between), its a surprisingly versatile instrument, has the warmth of a semi hollow body guitar combined with the bite of a solid body!
