The Freiherrn von Poschinger are among the oldest families in Bavaria; The first Poschinger was mentioned in a document as early as 1140. In 1547 Duke Albrecht V gave the Poschingen family a coat of arms, which is still used today. When Joachim Poschinger acquired the Zadlershütte glassworks near Frauenau in 1568, the now almost 450-year history of the Poschinger as glassworks and landlords in the Bavarian Forest began. The glassworks in Frauenau and the associated Oberfrauenau estate are bought in 1605. Over the centuries the family has operated Glashütten in Spiegelhütte, Buchenau, Oberzwieselau and Theresienthal. Only the hut in Frauenau remains the only one of its kind. It is the oldest in Germany with the longest family tradition in the world. Together with the best glassmakers in the manufactory, they create glass objects of the highest quality. Poschinger glasses are part of the equipment of zeppelins and ocean liners and adorn the tables of European royal and princely houses. The family becomes purveyor to the court of the Bavarian and French kings and even the tsar in St. Petersburg enjoys the fine drinking glasses from the Bavarian Forest.
